Notes on eSASS telecon of 2017-04-03

Participants: SO, AG, MF, TD, HB, GL, IK, MR

SO (Sabine Osterhage) attended the meeting for the first time.

** Ringberg meeting (May 8-10):

CG and TD will present their eSASS tasks in the hands on session on May 8th, AG will present apetool if ready by then, HB will present GL's source detection tasks, CG will prepare the demo.

** eSASS infrastructure:

html task descriptions of user eSASS tasks should be ready for Ringberg demo.

Error, warning (ERROR0/1) and logging output needs to be done via the wr* routines for proper logging in the pipeline. Please make use of the wrchatty routine where output is only intended for debugging. HB will change 'ERROR0/1' to 'WARNING' (done) and look into shortening the fixed part of the WR* output (is now somewhat shorter in pipeline mode and much shorter in interactive mode).

Test harnesses still missing for some tasks

RA_CEN and DEC_CEN need to be added to the standard header (perhaps others)

** DA_TOOL & Catalog Browser:

SO has taken over the DA_TOOL frontend from HB. SO and CG are now coordinating the interface between the front- and backend. OS is now also working on a Web tool which displays the current pipeline processing status.

TD is still waiting for inputs on his draft document on the Catalog Browser before circulating it more widely. Next 'eSASS science requirements meeting' will be announced when TD's document is out. The meeting is still planned to happen before the Ringberg meeting. Coding of the Catalog Browser will start after the 'eSASS science requirements meeting' (OS will be working with TD on this).

** SOU chain:

AG, GL and HB will discuss ermldet/apetool interface and, when available, will let CG know which additional columns catprep will need to propagate.

TB and MF will discuss dpvalp interface (input files & command line parameters); HB will set up pipeline accordingly.

** DET chain:

AG suggested that the aperture photometry columns in the source catalogs should be filled by ermldet (making use of an apetool library provided by AG). Task apetool will be called in the pipeline to create a number of maps needed for aperture photometry, sensitivity map creation, and eventually stacking. Apetool will also be available as an interactive tool.

We discussed what needs to be done to test the shapelet PSF-based detection chain with PANTER PSF-based SIXTE simulations. Nicolas simput files and simulation routines may be useful. AG and GL will discuss how best to create suitable simulations (3.6x3.6 deg standard survey fields with logN-logS AGN plus clusters). IK offered that Thomas Dauser could help.

The new all-sky simulations currently running in Bamberg will be useful for end-to-end preprocessor/NRTA/eSASS pipeline testing but quantitative detection testing will require something else. IK will run the new simulations through his FITS to telemetry converter to create an input dataset for the end-to-end tests.

AG stated that he will move back to shapelet model fitting and PSF calibration after completion of an initial apetool version.

** TEL chain:

There currently seems to be an issue which prevents evprep event files from being read by CG's evtool routines, called by task telselect (under investigation by CG).

Preprocessor:

DC provided answers to IK's questions on the telemetry formats. IK is now preparing follow-up questions.

We discussed GTI creation in tmsplit and evprep. Depending on whether time-tags for empty CCD frames will be available, different approaches are needed (details are still tbd).

IK pointed out that the preproc task requires the presence of GTI for time periods which only have HK but no science data. As currently implemented, the eSASS pipeline will however only be triggered if science data are available.
